Depicting Life in Ancient Ohio:

Creating Paleo Art for the Buckeye State

Chuck Salmons – Publications & Outreach Supervisor, Ohio Geological Survey

Abstract: Released in fall 2023 by the Ohio Geological Survey, the Life in Ancient Ohio educational poster series depicts flora, fauna, and ancient environments from seven periods of the state’s geologic history represented in its bedrock and surficial deposits. During the talk, attendees will learn how the seven posters were developed, from concept to completion, with an examination of the efforts made to create images that were both beautiful and scientifically accurate. Supplemental materials and current and future uses of the artwork also will be discussed. Learn more at ohiodnr.gov/liao
